Stanford's defense was statistically horrible, among the bottom 10 in the country. The pass defense was especially bad. The O did carry the team, and that tells you how bad the P10 was in '99. The laughing stock of the country.

Maybe.  It tells you something that the cream of the B10 scored just 17 points on the statistically horrible, etc.
