That is what makes him most effective at Stanford in the eyes of the coaching staff. That isn't going to change. There won't be a "Bryce Love development program". It wouldn't be fair to the other players. He knows that, so if he comes back next year, it will be to run the ball.
Needs to show that he can be a receiver either in the slot or out of the backfield. He also has not proven to be a very effective pass blocker.

I don't think this is quite right. Love has shown he can catch the ball during his freshman year but injuries have prevented Stanford from adding more of his receiving skills into the offense in the last two years. As a freshman, he had his role as sort of a third down back with a couple of well defined plays for him (screens, reverses and some misdirection). Those are probably the main plays he practiced. As a sophomore, the idea was to get McCaffrey and Love in the game at the same time but they never were really healthy at the same time. So there wasn't time to add these sorts of plays. When Love was healthy, McCaffrey was hurt and Love had to run just the bread and butter Stanford run plays.
I think the same thing happened this year. Shaw has shown in the past as each season moves on, he starts to add wrinkles to the offense. He was unable to that this year with Love because he didn't practice at all during the second half of the season. I'm expecting / hoping to see some receiving wrinkles added to the game tonight.
So I believe if Love comes back and stays healthy for most of next year, he'll be incorporated much more into the passing game.
