Quote:Davis, a defensive back who enrolled at the University of Oregon this week, was near the end of his freshman season at the University of Texas when he was arrested at 6:48 a.m. on Nov. 28 in Pearland, Texas, after being spotted driving on the rim of a blown tire.
He was charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, Alprazolam, a medication prescribed to control anxiety.
According to the police report, Davis had 4 1/2 of the pills in his pocket and admitted to taking half of one. A field test was given and, the report alleged, subject did not have the normal use of ... mental or physical faculties.
The next day, Texas coach Mack Brown suspended Davis indefinitely, a period that covered the rest of the UT season.
In December, Davis pleaded guilty to reckless driving; he was given a suspended sentence of 30 days in jail, placed on probation for 12 months, fined $200, ordered to pay restitution and other costs totalling $1,630 and ordered to complete 60 hours of community service.
