Determined not to be outdone, Oregon has recruited this player who was thrown off the team at UTexas
we refer to this player as Masoli gang member #11
Quote:Davis, a defensive back who enrolled at the University of Oregon this week, was near the end of his freshman season at the University of Texas when he was arrested at 6:48 a.m. on Nov. 28 in Pearland, Texas, after being spotted driving on the rim of a blown tire.
He was charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, Alprazolam, a medication prescribed to control anxiety.
According to the police report, Davis had 4 1/2 of the pills in his pocket and admitted to taking half of one. A field test was given and, the report alleged, subject did not have the normal use of ... mental or physical faculties.
The next day, Texas coach Mack Brown suspended Davis indefinitely, a period that covered the rest of the UT season.
In December, Davis pleaded guilty to reckless driving; he was given a suspended sentence of 30 days in jail, placed on probation for 12 months, fined $200, ordered to pay restitution and other costs totalling $1,630 and ordered to complete 60 hours of community service.

i.e. declare that these a fine young men who made a mistake and have paid for it by missing on-campus team training in the summer before regular fall camp.
Before you place your bets, note that Shaquille Richardson is a 3-star CB, Paul Richardson is a 4-star WR and Josh Shirley is a 4-star LB.

wow, I respect Neuheisel (HOLY CRAP--SUCH WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN WRITTEN!!!) for that.
granted, he said they might be able to (and probably will) rejoin the team in January, but that\'s suspending 10 stars worth of players for an entire season.
Good job, Neuheisel. urrgh. must shower now. i feel dirty...

Think about the "punishment". Â No skin off the Bruins\' nose. Â Those guys weren\'t going to play this season, anyway. Â They miss one semester of school with no loss of playing eligibility. Â They delay school entry and get to lift weights and hang out for a semester. Â Anyone think that they won\'t be back in the program and school come January?...unless they\'re as stupid as Jeremiah Masoli. Â I\'d rather see them also have criminal prosecution...which may happen. Â Neuheisel shouldn\'t be involved in that decision.

\'How many Bruins does it take to steal a purse?\' (Insert your own punch line.)
Hey, maybe the purse had a 47 inch television in it, and therefore required the whole crew.

With that kind of football-player-to-purse-carrier ratio, maybe Rick needs to start recruiting purse-toting students and increase the toughness of his team.

We\'re programmed to distrust Neuheisel so I get the feeling we\'re waiting for the punchline to be delivered. Â Â
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

Quote:Anybody here still think UCLA\'s suspension of the three players isn\'t serious?
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_b...ntent.html
Well this "news" really suggests that UCLA was concerned about possible litigation coming back at them. Â If the men were not allowed to attend school or play for the program, then why keep them tied to a binding letter of intent that restricts their ability to move on? Â Unless I missed something they have not been convicted of this alleged crime yet.
I am sure someone in the fine UCLA legal department recommended that the men get released from their LOI immediately, since the old situation had the potential to become problematic for UCLA.
A few personal observations...
Stealing a purse is bad, but I am very confident a lot of current D-1 football players have done things far worse. Â I suspect all three could be playing soon.
There does not seem to be anything in this update that prevents UCLA from bringing any of the three back to the program later. Â So really, this update gives the guys more options.

...stealing a purse? Â Â Tennessee Vol fans may soon lose the ability to blush. Â The Vol players just keep raising the bar. Â Literally raising the bar. Â Allegations that a group of players stomped one guy in a bar fight they started. Â Who knows how it will get resolved. Â Poor HC Derek Dooley. Â He\'s saddled with trying to clean up a whole, Â rot-riddled football culture AND Â win big...soon.

Here\'s another article about the Vols and their more recent encounters with the law (and other Tenn fans who happened to be in the way of Tenn football players).
The new southern gothic.

And now one of the UCLA three has found a new Pac-10 home.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/hu...wfb23.html
He might see immediate playing time because UW apparently has an urgent need at that position.

Aaaahhhh...the Oregon plan for football success. Â When will Masoli be offered the job as assistant coach for the defense (criminal defense that is)?
