In fact, if you look at their other 2 national titles (1995 and 2000), in 1995, an all-time great Rebecca Lobo led that team to their first undefeated season. I don't know much about their 2000 roster, but it appears that team was the only one which wasn't led by a superstar player. Sue Bird, the best point guard in women's basketball for the last two decades, was on the 2000 team
Also, UConn keeps putting themselves in position to get the next all-time great very frequently with Christyn Williams and Olivia Nelson-Ododa coming in next year.
