Stanford doesn't offer early enrollment, and Shaw wasn't going to play Rosen as a freshman. So, mutually, there was no fit. No point in making an offer that won't be accepted. The 40 year decision wasn't going to do the job, dream school or not. Maybe in hindsight Rosen would not insist on these two conditions, but, at the time, either or both could have DQed Stanford.
I wonder if The Road Not Taken were being recruited today, but with the lessons he learned over the last three years, whether Shaw would extend him an offer.
