I doubt if the reasons were merely because Stanford doesn't offer early enrollment and Josh wouldn't have played as a freshman.

I think from Josh's point of view, those are pretty great reasons not to go to Stanford. If you want to get to the NFL as a QB in 3 years, Stanford is not the place to go. Based on what he actually did, it it pretty clear that was his plan. He has said some nice things about Stanford, true, and also about his academic goals, but when push came to shove, he declared for the draft. I really believe that was his intention all along. It may have certainly rubbed some people at Stanford the wrong way when he laid it out to them that way. However, it isn't a crazy set of goals or an unreasonable plan for someone with his abilities. While you point out that Josh has indicated he would like to have received an offer, I would argue that is just being "polite" (as he sees it). How would it sound if he said "No, I didn't want to go there because I couldn't start as a freshman and that would mess up my plan to go NFL as soon as possible."?
