That outdoes anything Bonds ever hit, IMO. There may have been further hit balls, but an opposite field bomb to that part of the park, into the wind no less, is something special. Will be amazing what he does when at a band box like Cincinnati in the Summer. Of course, both his HRs this year for Giants have been opposite field shots. Will be interesting to see what happens when he pulls one.
That home run was extraordinary. I don't recall Bonds hitting too many off field, but if you think about it...464 feet, opposite field, into the wind. And the Giants struck out 17 times that day, most since Koufax punched out 18 Giants on August 31, 1959. Williamson was the only Giant who didn't strike out. Wow. Just...wow.
Let's also point out that Chris Stratton had a pretty good 6 2/3 giving up 2 ERs with seven total baserunners. Dyson got his batter out and Tony Watson and Hunter Strickland each had a good inning, although every time I see Strickland on the mound, I find an excuse to do something other than watch him pitch. Although if he had pitched against Harper, I would have watched it. :D
And the Giants stats are getting incrementally better. Here are their MLB rankings: #19 in BA at .234, #13 in stolen bases #15 in HRs with 23 but #26 in runs scored. For fielding, #16 in fielding percentage, #5 in double plays. Giants Team pitching is shining with a 3.29 ERA (#6) and a 1.19 WHIP (#8). We're 10-12 and Cueto has the lowest ERA in the majors and Samardzija pitched well in his first stint back, and we get Bumgarner back in six weeks (or so).
