BC, I am not sure you are being totally serious, but FWIW, I think Reid playing 5 positions significantly hurt his draft stock. First, playing as a "third corner" exposed the fact that Reid isn't really a great coverage guy. As a safety, you don't need to be, but giving up big chunks when covering the slot receiver doesn't help your draft stock. If Reid had just played at safety, his most productive position, his limitations wouldn't have been in everyone's mind on draft day. Doing one thing well is much better than doing five things, some not so well.
As far as Meeks staying at Stanford, it probably was made clear to him that he wasn't going to be the starting safety, at least going into spring football. He also knew from last year that he wasn't the first choice at corner either, and that he probably wasn't good enough at corner to play there in an NFL future anyway. Improving his draft position is only likely if he gets to play a lot. I am pretty sure he doubted that was going to happen, so he decided it was better to start trying to make it in the NFL now rather than hope he could shine next year at Stanford.
If you told me that he should have stayed at Stanford and finished his degree because he probably wasn't NFL material, I might agree with you. But, he clearly thinks he has a shot at the next level. If he does, going now rather than next year probably makes sense.
