I wonder if Meeks now wishes he had stayed in school.

I spoke with a program insider and Meeks was told by Shaw and every one of his coaches - including Akina - as well as his family to stay at Stanford. He made this decision on his own, against the advice of all of those around him. I hope it works out for him but I also hope he learns to listen to advice from those who genuinely care about him.

This makes some sense.  It also is possible Stanford did offer him the chance to play Safety his Senior year, and he refused, because he had his mind set on playing CB in the NFL. Meeks is plenty good enough to play CB for Stanford in 2018, but nobody other than him thinks he is an NFL CB.  Pride is a one of the seven "deadly sins" for a reason.
