Reading between the lines, my guess is that Jerome is earning a lot of playing time at the stretch 4 and Dodson is still a work in progress--still is dealing with self-confidence and learning from mistakes. And just like last year everyone marvels at Dodson's athleticism. But she is "thinking too much" and just needs to rely on her physical talents more. Fingall is praised for her versatility. "We have to get her more time." That is the kind of remark you don't make about a starter, so I really don't have a clearer picture of who starts at the 5. It sounds like it is going to come down to Fingall vs. Dodson, depending on who develops the best over the summer.
At the 4 there is an odd clash brewing. Smith will be the focal point, and it is clear that they want her at the four and not just being a post player. But that is also where they are pushing Jerome, and it sure seems like they want Jerome to be more than Smith's understudy. My guess is that for a few minutes a game Smith will be back at the 5 or Jerome will be at the 3, giving them a chance to both be on the court at the same time. If Dodson and/or Fingall don't develop well, then maybe we will see more of that.
I'm curious as to how others read Tempie's words. Interesting how Tempie notes that there "is a lot of competition to play at the guard spots." I would certainly think so!
I interpret the guard comment is that Jerome needs to be at 4 or 5. Supports views of lots of competition at
1 (where I saw Brown play and think she will be better than Sniezek), 2 (Williams), and 3 (Carrington and the Hulls who were also quite impressive). Of course, one might go with Williams at 1 and Carrington at 2 if we need Jerome at 3? Also, Wilson is the x factor. When she is healthy she has tremendous ability as we have seen.
