Even though Smith improved on her defense without fouling, there were still games last season when she accumulated a couple of quick fouls and Tara had to sit her prematurely. Having Jerome as someone who could potentially come in without a significant drop-off in contribution, would be important.
Plus, with Alanna a senior and Alyssa just a sophomore next year, Jerome would gain valuable experience both playing with Smith at the same time and by herself, potentially taking over the 4 spot when Alanna graduates. It could make the transition smoother heading in the 2019-20 season, as it hopefully will help DiJonai this season as she assumes the 3 role from Britt, as Carrington both provided relief for McPhee and then often complemented her out on the court at the same time last year.
