His criteria is a bit erratic (but of course it is his list and he can apply them however he wants). But he seems to focus on winners who were less deserving in general (with some exceptions).
Hence Stanford fails to make the list because Herschel Walker, Ingram, RGIII, Newton, Henry and Mayfield were deserving winners, compared to players like Geno Torretta, Archie Griffin (in 1975), et. al.
What the heck, why not Dudek? And where was Gordie Lockbaum on that list?
