I'm convinced that Dodd's nonsense has helped Love's campaign. He probably already earned some points with the voters just for coming back for his senior year, something that will be played up all season, but now there's this. The sleepy East Coast voters will miss many of his games, but they'll always remember that he made the right choice this week. If this column hadn't been written, no would one would ever remember, not even a week from now, that he didn't go to media day. In fact, 99% of the football fans in America would never have known. By being a jackass, Dodd has actually helped Love's campaign. He's a student first, and now he's actually a martyr for the lost cause of athletes prioritizing academics.

Well said, Hank.  I think this is exactly how this saga has unfolded.  He's already shown the national media he has the pedigree, through last year's performance, so the traditionalists out there already think he'd be a deserving winner. If he has anything close to the year he did last year, stuff like this Media Day kerfuffle will give him all the "intangibles" he needs to stay one of the favorites.  And even if defenses focus their attention on him, that just leaves things open for an improved K.J. to find Irwin, JJAW, Smith, Wedington, etc. I'd love for Bryce to win the thing, but if he has a bit of a return to earth like Christian did his last year here, it should be to the team's benefit.
