I lived in Melbourne a couple years before you ('92-'95). When I first got there, our primary method of keeping up with sports was via one news stand that imported a few copies of the US version of USA today (not the international version). We ran a fantasy football league down there and would get together over lunch on Wednesday to go over the NFL box scores and manually allocate points. Then we would do it again on Thursday because of the Monday night game. No injury reports were available before your picks had to be in on Friday at 5pm AST (which is really Thursday in the US). The year I was champion with Brett Favre (first year as GB starter) and Louis Lipps (double duty as receiver and returner) scoring lots of points for me. Remarkably, I picked both as backups to other players I don't even remember.
Actually, I never lived in Melbourne. I was visiting my parents, who moved to Black Rock, south of the Yarra, while I was at Stanford.
