When did you last go to a game? I went to the Washington game we lost by 1 at the finish and there was a solid, impressive, and very engaged crowd to the very end of that game. Was it the madhouse of the Monty days with the bouncy Maples floors? No. But there was solid enthusiasm. Almost everyone was on their feet cheering for the last two minutes of the game, and attendance was 5700 for around an 80% full house. It was noticeable.
I sometimes feel like with some Stanford fans enthusiasm seems to be conditional on unceasing excellence (and I am guilty of this sometimes too). This isn't our best team and it wasn't our best year. But there was a lot to like, and a lot of likable guys on the court (and the bench), and part of being a fan is having faith and showing enthusiasm. The last game I went to, there was a lot of both, and it was encouraging to see.
Edited to add: fittingly, a synonym for "fan" is "enthusiast."
