The other night they got beat 18-2. I checked while the game was in progress and Arizona's line score looked like a putt-putt golf scorecard, 1-2-2-3-3-3 on the first 6 holes. AZ's first 4 batters were 14 for 24 with 4 HRs, 11 runs and 14 RBIs. That's about two weeks' production from the Giants.
They're on a pace to go 49-113 this year. Their worst 162-game record to date was 1985's 62-100. If they finish with 49 wins, it would tie the 2003 Detroit Tigers as the 10th worst team in history.
Just a quibble. With today's loss they are 21-31, .403. Over 162 games that projects to 65 wins, 97 losses.
100 losses is the classic milestone for ineptitude. Projections are moving targets, of course, but they have a chance to project to more than 100 losses if they drop their next 4 games, but those games are against Miami and Baltimore, who are possibly the two worst teams in baseball. And remarkably, there are two more teams, KC and Detroit, that still have a worse record than the Giants.
It's not even June, and already I'm wondering how badly they need to tank to get a really good draft pick. A couple of years ago they had the top pick in the bag and then Detroit went 6-24 after September 1, tied them, and won the coin flip IIRC.
