Extremely difficult non conference schedule.   Plus too many on the road.

That is the road to the championship

That 5 game preseason stretch is crazy.  However, they need the preseason strength of schedule for a chance to host a regional since the Pac-12 is not super strong.  Better to go 4-1 or 3-2 in that key preseason series than 5-0 against weaker teams at home if that gauntlet strengthens the chance to host. 

The real goal of the non-conference season is to get 4 matches in Maples in December.  Hopefully the road to Pittsburgh will go through Maples.
