FWIW, I think it is very clear from sources in LA that SC needs to clear spots and is, in fact, clearing spots. Either SC is misleading 15 HS recruits that space will be available or they are making space by forcing others to leave. The math is not that hard to follow. Either way, some kids are getting a raw deal for the greater good of SC.
If SC was a pro franchise this type of move would be quite logical. As SC fans like to think of SC football as the local pro team, these moves probably don't bother the fans one bit. Anything to win a BCS title, fight on, and all. The SEC does similar types of things every single year, as they allow far too many players to verbal for their limited number of slots. It is not a conspiracy, and it is not against the rules. It is just far from the message most coaches tell the kids parents when they are recruiting them out of HS.Â
It is not THAT sleezy, but it is inconsistent with a school that is claiming it is diligently working to improve its academic reputation.
I certainly would not expect a school that was comfortable breaking the rules to then become uncomfortable bending a few unwritten ethical ones in the pursuit of wins.
The more I see examples like SC, the SEC and others, the more I believe a school should be required to offer 4 year scholarships.
