Most fans were calling for Brett Nottingham, who left Stanford after losing out to Hogan and proceeded to have a not very strong career at Columbia.
There were a few who had noted that Hogan had seemed promising. But what would have been more accurate to say is that the fans were calling for someone other than Nunes for weeks before Shaw made the switch. Most of us did not know who it should be, but we all knew that Nunes was not making the offense work and there was a clamor to replace him long before Shaw did it.

I'm not saying we were right. Shaw was probably trying to get Hogan ready, who had only a very small package of plays at first, and Nunes may have been the best we had in the meantime.
What I am saying is the fans are almost always weeks in front of the coach when it comes to quarterback changes. You could say we anticipate 3 out of every 1 switches, long in advance. :)
