We handily took care of business and looked impressive doing so. Our depth is superb, even our "C" team is very solid.
Just my own two cents on the freshmen:
I think Haley Jones' "quiet" night is a reflection of her versatility and high basketball IQ. Tonight she didn't need to be a scorer, she recognized her teammates had open looks or the hot hand and she facilitated. I suspected if she had been on the other team, she would have looked to score a lot more often.
A consistent inside scoring threat is what we've been missing and though Belibi is still raw, you could see by her athleticism and moves to the basket that her ceiling is sky high. It was something that I had hoped Dodson would have.
Wow, Prechtel in my mind was the "forgotten" fourth member of the class in some ways with Jones' #1 ranking, Belibi's dunking prowess and Jump's shooting ability making the headlines, but if tonight was any indication of her ability to contribute, we are just spoiled. Her ability to stretch the floor coupled with her post presence blocking shots, she could be another coming of Alanna Smith.
Another wow for Jump and her quick three point releases, it's reminding me of how Karlie was automatic her last couple years shooting from the three and conjuring images of flailing opponents trying so hard to keep her from being open as to leave one of our other many weapons open for an easy shot.
A team composed of our freshmen would be highly competitive, but add them to a veteran squad with Kiana's shooting, DiJonai's toughness, Jerome's versatility, I could go on and on, but we all get the picture
We all know Tara is a mastermind of a coach, but in some years, she didn't have a high overall talent level to work with, but I cannot wait to see how she works her magic with all of the options at her disposal this year.
It would be interesting to see against a top level opponent, like an Oregon, whether she would substitute liberally or would she settle on a core 7 or 8 rotation.
