i enjoyed that the freshman excelled in different ways: 15 rebounds for belibi, 5 blocks for prechtel (i saw one more than the 4 credited), 4 3-pointers from jump, 2 beautiful assists from jones.
i thought jump played excellent defense, especially for a freshman. she was reputed to be slow, but to my eyes she was quick and tight to her player. surprisingly good ball handler as well.
i am a great fan of haley jones, but to me she looked tentative and a bit lost. she fumbled the ball 4 or 5 times, unforced, and lost a couple of rebounds out of bounds in addition to her 2 turnovers. her court vision and passing are outstanding, but last night her handle was not. i can think of 2 mitigating factors: she has been injured, and she played multiple positions (mostly the 4), so she has way more to master than the other 3.
prechtel really sprints up the floor.
best game so far for jenna brown.
estella moschkau has quite a shot, but she will compete for time with hannah jump, our other 3-point specialist, whose defense seems stronger.
i can't remember the last time incoming freshman posts could hit free throws right away.
Agree with everything except I thought Jones looked pretty comfortable out there as well. Yes the ball slipped out of her hands a few times but it did so for a number of other players as well. For most of the time she was in, Jones was playing a point-forward role. She was the 4 but was initiating a lot of the offense off the dribble. She drives and then has to make a split second decision either to pass to an open 3-point shooter, pass to Belibi, continue the drive for a layup or shoot a short jumper in the lane. What makes Jones so interesting in that role is that she has the size/shooting to do the latter two whereas it can be hard for our smaller point guards to try and score when they are well defended in the lane.
