The football-induced boycott of this site (and what I believe to be The Facilitators of the program's demise - i.e., all those who think Shaw is great and can do no wrong) is not enough to boycott the WBB commentary. And that's because there is something very, very special happening right now with this program (as others have noted).
This team is talented.
This team is deep.
This team can shoot from the outside.
This team can score in the open floor.
This team can rebound.
And this team can D you up.
It may take some time, but I expect the ROW to "get it" at some point and get out to see this squad at Maples. Last night was very enjoyable, from a hoops viewing standpoint, even though the final was a blowout. And that's because this team does so many things well - even when building upon big leads. A few minor comments/adds to this thread:
1. Pretty sure Jump started 0-3 on treys and then hit her next four from behind the arc;
2. The best 3-point shooters on the team - in terms of reliability (at least at this early stage of the season) - are Prechtel, Jump, and Williams. But a host of other players can knock them down, too.
3. The poster who said Prechtel reminded him/her of Keith Van Horne was so on the mark (and you can see that KVH has helped develop Prechtel's game). She is fundamentally sound (and extremely good) in all aspects of the game.
4. Haley Jones will be fine. In fact, I thought she was good last night, and I really liked that she didn't force anything (although one TO on a take to the rack might have qualified - but there is a fine line between aggression and forcing things). Best play of the night was Haley dribbling coast-to-coast and then pulling up for a short jumper, only to dump it off to Belibi for an easy deuce under the bucket. Agree with the poster who said Haley will do what the game mandates.
5. Lexie is the glue kind of player that every team needs (see Jillian Harmon), and I expect her to play a ton this season (probably not as much as Kiana Williams or even Carrington - but a lot). But so many players on the roster will play important/meaningful minutes, including Prechtel, Jones, Belibi, Wilson, Jerome, Lacie and Brown (who looked good last night).
Deep, deep team . . . and it is going to Big Places this season!
