It feels like it's a race between NCAA haters to abolish amateurism and athletic departments to abolish any credible claim to the student part of student-athlete. Especially for football, I wonder how much longer it will be before it makes more sense to make these teams clubs that are loosely associated with universities, the way European football clubs are associated with cities? Fewer and fewer schools have the integrity to maintain the full student-athlete experience the way Stanford does.
