This is in the latter category. 3rd-string TE behind two younger players. Wonder if this indicates Park might be coming back.
I agree that this is one of those "makes sense" transfers. He probably wasn't going to fulfill his dreams at Stanford, so he is looking for greener pastures. That said, could he have been better? Did Stanford recruit the wrong guy or did he simply not develop? Back in 2017, he had a good catch in his collegiate debut against Rice and a few more that season. But he never lived up to his size and billing. What went wrong? Coby Fleener was also a 3-star recruit and became a legendary member of Tight-End U.
I dunno man, I dunno. Felt a little like he was the odd man out of our "main" 3 TEs this year. Couldn't catch or run routes like Park, and couldn't block like Fisk. (Park also got better at blocking but Fisk loves mauling people.)
Austin Hooper was a more recent 3* TE recruit to blow up. And I'm hoping Fisk, Bradley Archer, and the two high-3* guys we have committed in '20, Ungar and Yurosek, will follow his footsteps more closely than Harrington's or Greg Taboada's.
Although I'm REALLY hoping Fisk moves to DE if Park comes back. We can use Jay Symonds as a depth TE/H-back. He has soft hands and some blocking chops. Plus the entire WR corps is coming back (with more reinforcements!) and we'll likely be spreading it around again anyways.
