You might be right about your other points, but this is Stanford admissions, not Shaw.  They admit about 50 out of 1500.  As if regular admissions were not insane enough.

Bob can tell us whether there is anything comparable for regular admissions for special consideration for athletes.  The one transfer athlete I remember is Brook Smith in WBB who transferred from Duke in 2003.  I'm sure there must have been a handful of others--but it is never going to be a reliable part of athletic recruiting.

The common data set for 2019-2020 is available.

HS applicants - 4.34% admitted (2062 of 47498)
Transfers - 0.97% admitted  (24 of 2466)  

Unless Stanford's undergrad retention rate changes dramatically, the number of admitted transfers will remain small enough that any coach thinking transfers are a fast path to success, or an important recruiting back-up plan should not even take a role at Stanford.
