Here's why:
First, KJ was touted as a top NFL prospect going into last season. He was known for and already proven he can run a "pro style" offense. That means he's familiar with protections and more sophisticated offensive concepts that what Leach runs.
Second, Costello will have a chance to play Alabama, Auburn and LSU defenses, that if he performs well against will heighten his draft value in the eyes of NFL personnel people.
Third, he'll get an opportunity to play in a system that has proven over and over and over that a QB can pick it up quickly and put up big numbers; no steep learning curve to learn the offense.
Fourth, he's already got the Stanford degree, so why worry about school anymore when he's thinking of an NFL career. There is no shame coming from Mississippi State after proving yourself at Stanford.
Well reasoned. Only question from a football standpoint is how much of a beating he might take at MSU. If I’m KJ I am looking quite heavily into what they have coming back on the offensive line. The thing about the air raid is he’s gonna throw throw throw, of course. And he’s not particularly mobile.
I’ll never forget a game at Stanford years ago (12 or 13 I think) – back in those wonderful days when they beat Washington state. I think the quarterback was Halliday. WSU threw something like 70 times. I think they ran it ONCE in the first half. He got the absolute crap beat out of him. I had a lot of respect for him after that game. And none for Leach. He let the kid get slaughtered.
That would be my concern playing for Leach in the SEC.
