I know how hard it is for those kids to miss out their senior year. The same thing happened to my son in high school.
In a weird twist, my son is getting a massive benefit from this. He has spent most of his first two years in college injured. He was finally putting it together the last few weeks and preparing to compete in the biggest meet of the year for club teams in 2.5 weeks. (UIC relegated their gymnastics team from NCAA to club level this year.) At that meet the NCAA coaches are looking for kids to transfer into their programs, and my son was hoping to show that he would be a good candidate. He has been talking to the coach of a team which we shall not name and this was the meet they were going to use to decide. He's already been cleared academically to transfer. Yesterday, he strained his bicep. Bad enough that he cannot do gymnastics for 2 weeks. He was incredibly upset and saying he was ready to retire from the sport. Today USA Gymnastics cancelled all of the meets they sponsor for the next month. The meet will not happen. All of a sudden he has time to heal and use his training tapes for evaluation. He was 180 degrees removed from yesterday's depression today.
