I just read this on another message board and it seems crazy. For all fall sports with no fall NCAA championship the athletes get an additional year of eligibility. But the crazy thing is the additional year scholarships do not count against a team's limit.
So as I understand, if Stanford WVB has 12 players on scholarship this season, every one of them gets an additional year (even if they play in a spring NCAA championship) and none of those 12 additional year scholarships count against the team limit. A really unfair advantage for schools like Stanford who may be able to foot the bill for additional scholarships beyond what would normally be planned.
