AND THEY WILL STILL GET LOCKED OUT OF THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF!
No doubt colleges/universities are desperate for the $$.
Stanford isn't immune from that - certainly not the rest of the Pac.
And yes, I'm sure the league doesn't want to be relegated even further to college sports irrelevance. I doubt many have delusions about a Pac team making the CFP (though Duck fans might think they should be under consideration).
I also doubt the players will be negatively impacted health-wise; and you'll trot out the "unknown long-term health effects," and I'll reply with that's true right now, irrespective of Covid. Regardless, under the "unknown" logic any player testing positive should never play again, and that's a tough sell.
Like everything, it's an incremental risk-benefit analysis, and it appears that the Pac has fallen in line with other conferences regarding the conclusion of that analysis (though I wonder what the point is of an 7 game season). Ultimately, like any other "re-opening" decision, it's a policy choice based on various factors (money usually playing a significant role).
I don't get that worked up about these various re-opening decisions beyond the disappointment/frustration that K-12 education is not deemed "important enough" to "find a way" to get back in the classroom.
And if it's any comfort to you, remember that there is no guarantee that the CFB season will be completed . . . by any team or league. So you still have hope . . .
