Maybe it's just my Stanford elitism showing, but I would think that education would be pretty high on my list of essential activities, and pretty damned more important than a bunch of college kids moving a ball 100 yards.

Agree completely. With a kid just starting high school, sure was looking forward to getting kids back into the classrooms, at least part time. The high school had put together a great plan for hybrid learning, then came the mandate from the governor that no classes would be in person unless the county was off the watch list. Just as our county and several other major counties were about to meet the metrics to come off the watchlist, the goal posts changed, with some criteria tightening, others being eliminated. Now it'll be another month or so of all virtual learning.
At least outdoor waxing has finally been approved. Glad we have our priorities in place. . . .
