Why would Sanborn get a scholarship once he got on the field
Jones wasn’t eligible for the draft

I thought preferred walk-ons became counters against the scholarship limit once they see the field, but I can't find a reference in google.  But if that is correct, then there would be no point to not giving them a scholarship once they count against the limit.
