After controlling the game for most of regulation, ASU took a 13 pt lead into the 4th quarter. When U$C lost a fumble to cap their 60 yard drive (11:16 left in the 4Q), ASU decided to control the clock and run the ball three consecutive plays before punting (sound familiar?).
U$C proceeded to move down the field on the strength of explosive plays, but even with 3:35 left in the game, ESPN had projected ASU to win with 99% confidence after ASU sacked Kedon Slovis at the ASU 23 yd line. Two plays later, U$C threw for a 26 yd touchdown.
U$C recovered the ensuing onside kick at their 45 yd line.
Then U$C scored a touchdown on a 4th and 9 from the ASU 21.
Okay, U$C is up one point with 1:20 left in the game. ASU should be able to kick a FG and win it, right?
ASU throws for 18 yds on first down. They proceed to fire four subsequent incomplete passes despite having a dual-threat QB who ran for 111 yards (10.1 ypc) and turn the ball over on downs.
U$C kneels twice to ice the game, 28-27.
What an interesting game...though not an impressive season debut for the presumptive Pac-12 South leader. Just U$C doing U$C things
