Basketball teams aren't going to be able to play with even one freaking positive test, with contact tracing basically involving the whole team, given the nature of the sport. Worse, college basketball teams play 2 times a week, so many games can be shaved off schedules with just one positive test.
They still may end up having season end in May.
I don't have a problem with healthy teams trying to get games in, especially as there is no guarantee that disruption levels will be lower in 4 or 6 weeks. You'd like to think so, but . . .
But I start from the vantage point that competitors will be fine; that spread risk is minimal (assuming widespread competitor testing); and that the kids want to compete first and foremost. Consider 2020-21 a "Back to the Basics" when it comes to competition for competition's sake.
