I was disappointed in him during Big Game.

He did fine. He has a strong arm, he had fewer delay of game penalties than most Stanford quarterbacks, he is accurate, he seems to have good leadership. He is solid, but the nfl demands a lot.

My biggest concern with him right now was his lack of pocket presence. As parts of the pocket collapse, other parts were safe and he did not identify them and step into them. Sometimes just one or two steps would buy the time the play needs to develop and instead he’d bolt from the pocket. Sometimes he felt jittery.

I like him. Most importantly, I like his toughness — he will stay in the pocket and take a hit to deliver a dagger into the heart of our opponent. A number of dropped balls should have been caught. So I am a big fan of him. But I think he still isn’t where he needs to be. Overall, given his lack of mastery of the system, lack of good audibles, and lesser pocket presence, I think he’s below where Kevin Hogan was when he enteted the draft, even though I think Mills has a higher ceiling due to his accuracy and throwing consistency.
