I'll split the difference with you - I prefer (and use) "on accident" only when it's clearly being used as an antonym for "on purpose", but otherwise agree that by accident is the preferable usage. And I hate hate hate when less is used in place of fewer, so I'll join you with my torch and pitchfork on that hill.
