That was classy.
Mitch Johnson, yeah. Not particularly classy, but also revealing of what a poor coach Trent was. Mitch was Trent's guy. It was pretty obvious early on that Mitch wouldn't do much better than a competent point guard, but instead Trent decided to give a scholarship to Drew Shiller, who couldn't even get minutes at USF. Somehow, despite having two of the more gifted big men in college basketball, who caused the defense to collapse around him, Trent couldn't find a good shooting point guard. Whatever you think of Johnny Dawkins, it'd be truly wonderful if we could donate his point guard recruiting to Trent--could you imagine how scary that Stanford team would've been with Randle, or, hell, even Bright? Trent could've played around Mitch's limitations by playing him less--more Goods at point guard, even some Fred Washington as a point forward, but Trent rarely even bothered to try.
Ultimately Trent cheated himself there--with a better point guard, Stanford wins a conference title and advances past the Sweet 16.
