I mean the women's basketball team has 15 scholarship athletes, of which, by definition 10 cannot be starters. Alyssa Jerome, Maya Dodson, Jenna Brown, to give some other examples, are upperclassmen who have been passed up by younger players and could have transferred, but haven't. As you point out, the majority of Stanford athletes really do love being at Stanford and will stick it out even if they remain on the bench. But obviously not everyone, and we do get some players who transfer out of the system in search of better opportunities at other schools.
Could Prechtel transfer out? Of course. But I suspect that decision is probably less influenced by how many minutes she is getting than by general satisfaction with the staff, the school, and everything else. The last player who transferred out didn't leave because of a dearth of minutes; Carrington was a starter!
