When we were forced to invest more hope in the new guys coming in because the guys who were playing and starting were often demonstrably overmatched. So we figured the faster the new guys came in, the better. That, sadly, was not often the case. Stanford drew a few really talented guys, mainly in the skill positions. The rest were-- to use a convenient shorthand-- two stars who played like two stars.
