No. I don't have any inside information but it seems pretty clear that he has the program headed in the right direction, even if progress is slower than many of us (myself included) would like. He's a Hell of a recruiter, seems to know how to coach but things haven't totally fallen into place yet. I'm still optimistic about the future of the program.
Sorry but if they don't make the NCAAs I think it's hard to argue that the program direction is going in the right direction. This is Year Five, not Year Three. These are all his recruits, his system, etc. It's not good enough.
Of course all of this is moot. Muir is going to keep him no matter what we say. I just hope he doesn't sign Haase to some kind of long-term extension - something he absolutely hasn't earned.
I agree about not earning an extension, but I think this program is very close to breaking through. Of course you can never know what would happen, but I would heavily bet that if Wills and Daejon aren't out for an extended period of time, this team could be undefeated in conference play. Haase is a tireless recruiter and each year he's landing higher rated guys.
I have zero doubts about Haase as a recruiter, but I have significant doubts about his ability to develop a cohesive unit whose combined play is at least as great as the individual talents.
There's no doubt that he's better than Dawkins, but Dawkins should have been fired at least three seasons earlier and that's not the bar. The bar is making the NCAAs and contending for a conference title - not every year but at least some of the time. Haase has barely had a sniff of a golden ticket and hasn't come anywhere close to a conference title.
I hope the team makes the dance and puts this discussion to bed. It was a rough week but when healthy this is an NCAA-caliber roster.
