It's funny that people are saying "I can understand a chemistry building, sports field, professorship, department head, etc being endowed with a persons name but a FOOTBALL COACHING POSITION? How gauche and declasse." When did football coaching positions become so virtuous that they shouldn't be tainted by the smear of a personal donation honoring an individual?
Also, note that the entire school is basically funded by the endowment of two individuals making a "donation" in the name of someone they loved/admired: LELAND STANFORD JR! If they can name the school after somebody who never even attended (the horrors), I think they should feel comfortable naming the OC position after the winningest QB in school history.
