I thought the absolute worst moment of the game was 30 seconds left in the first half when Jones lost the ball to the Louisville guard who got an uncontested layup out of it, giving them a 12 point lead. But Jones got her focus back and played splendidly in the second half.
Over at the Louisville board the fans are blaming Walz for all kinds of things--mainly that he went with a small lineup, that he did not call a timeout soon enough, etc. And they are not impressed with us, thinking we were overseeded. Well, they can think whatever they want in their bitterness.
This game may be a blessing in disguise.
1) Future opponents may take us just a little bit less seriously. It might give South Carolina and UConn the tiniest whiff of overconfidence.
2) It certainly will teach our players about the need to play with focus for all four quarters.
3) It should give our players the confidence that they can come back from deficits--something that it is likely they may have to do against such excellent remaining teams.
