FWIW - Golf is a best stroke play format. The team of 5(?) goes out each day and their best 4 rounds of that day count towards the team total. The daily team totals are then tallied up across 3 or 4 days, depending on the event. The players are simultaneously playing for an individual stroke play championship.
The teams go out in batches. Normally 3 or 4 people from different schools in a group and then their teams are represented in ~5 consecutive groups. This is why during the championships the table will note that UCLA is playing holes 13-16, for example. Like other match play, the best teams play together in the final batch at the end of each round to reduce the odds that weather changes during the day unfairly alter the standings of the event.
Conference championship events normally have a similar format. I am sure we will all get a chance to watch the Pac-12 golf tournament next year on the Pac-12 network. ;)Â
