Speaking of fan enthusiasm (or lack thereof), I have been disappointed at how little the students care about football games. You can be in Stanford Stadium at kickoff and see almost no one in the student section. It might be half full by halftime, then empty out again in the 4th quarter. I see the paltry crowds at men's hoops and baseball as well and wonder how much the average Stanford student cares whether Stanford has 25 teams or 36 teams, whether they compete in D1 or D3 or at all. There does seem to have been some shift in attitude toward sports among the student body over the years.
