It has nothing to do with Texas, which in recruiting has compiled a track record against Stanford in recruiting.  Maybe if Cotton had chosen Texas over Stanford  or  Stanford over Texas your jibe would be relevant,  but that's completely different from whether one particular recruit was offered by one school and not another logical one.  It's just a mildly interesting question,  not a who-was-really-behind-the-Kennedy-assassination theory.  I think there are dozens of good answers or explanations,  but it is still interesting.
