I was on a Skype call between West & East Coast yesterday (corporate internet feeds at both ends)
All the video was camera feed (not screen), so probably less resolution.
I noticed:
1. Audio & Video didn't sync by maybe a half second.
2. Video refresh wasn't fast enough to see someone typing but maybe 1 of 5 characters.
Zoom says a dual core processor tops out at 5 frames per second (TV is normally 30). A quad core or higher will give better performance.
They indicate a screen sharing session requires 75Kbps (which is a negligible amount). Hopefully that can be much bigger. Transmitting a 1024x768 24-bit (8bit each of R,G,B) image is 19Mbits and would take 4 minutes at that rate without compression. So you need to compress by 1000 (5x4x60) or so, most of which will be that pixels don't change often, so you don't transmit them the second time. But, a fast changing image (consider basketball, or during a football play) will violate that. So I doubt the action will be very well presented.
The experiment would be easy enough to do. Zoom with a friend, and each of you share your screen while showing a football game from Youtube.
My experience with residential ISPs is that bandwidth & latency bounces around a lot, but that may be better with fiber. Variability will cause more issues when watching.
