I see no way this will make things better and several ways it probably will make things worse. First, to be clear, it appears they are not opening any more gates, so we have the same number of entry gates. They are moving the verification location from the additional tents they have set up to the gates themselves two hours (90 minutes of operation) before the game starts. What they are doing is re-serializing the slow process of getting through the gates by putting another choke point in front of the gates. The big advantage of moving the metal detectors out well in front of the gates is that you now can have more metal detector lines than you have entry point at each gate. The metal detection (empty pockets/bags, walk through, refill pockets bags) is slower than reading your ticket, so you need more of it to maintain flow. Getting your COVID-19 vax status checked and showing your photo id is also much slower than just getting your ticket scanned. So, to maintain flow they are going to need lots more people in front of the gate doing the checks. Where will the people trying to get in line up? Not against the fence, because the entry is now 25 feet from there. It will be a unmitigated mess I expect. I think the previous system that kept the vax verification away from the gates was a good idea. IMHO this new approach will be a big regression resulting in gridlock at the gates.
