USA middle distance runners are generally like USA divers.  They may represent the USA in the Olympics, which means they are GREAT athletes, but unless things change USA middle distance runners, like USA divers, are not exactly going to start the Olympic competition as gold medal favorites.

They may not start as favorites and I understand you are speaking/typing in generalities. But credit where its due -- Leo Manzano won silver in the 1500m yesterday and Matthew Centrowitz missed out on the bronze by 4/100 of a second.

Since this silly university as a stand alone country thing is based on people bringing home Olympics hardware, schools with the best american swimmers will find a way to the top of the university medal standings.

The whole university medal counts thing is silly. What's the point of counting relay and team medals when the entire contingent is not from the university? Of course, i'm not against celebrating the successes of alums and students.
