Interesting couple of names emerging from these recent reports: Kevin Hogan, Luke Kaumatule, and Remound Wright. I think Wright is really intriguing. We hadn't heard much of anything about him since he stepped on campus, and my sense was that he was dealing with some injuries. All the buzz in the spring was about Ricky Seale standing out and Kelsey Young. Now, in both the interview with Sanford and the Fowlkes article, Wright seems to be in the mix. Sanford saying that Seale is "instinctive" and needs to work on pass protection makes me wonder if "instinctive" is a euphemism for a bit undisciplined. In any case, while the majority of carries right now are ticketed for Taylor and Wilkerson, I'm looking forward to seeing if Wright can climb up the depth chart.Â
Regarding Fowlkes' observation that Vaughters and Skov were playing together with the second team at the open practice: could it be that the coaches are pairing the LBs that they expect to play together in the season, and as Skov rounds into full health/comfort on the field that we will see a Vaughters/Skov starting pair on the inside? As impressed as I was with both Tarpley and Lancaster last year, if Fowlkes was not exaggerating too much in dubbing Vaughters "Skov II", then the Skov/Vaughters pair could be truely scary. Depth at LB, even minus Leuders on the outside, seems really good.
Kaumatule starting to emerge as a legit TE prospect? Give him a year to learn the position, see him one year from now.
