I agree that it took Luck a season to develop his full potential. In 2009 he was a very efficient passer behind the running of Toby, but his completion rate was still just 56.2% I remember thinking that he was very good, but even by the end of that season it was hard to say that he would become one of the best college quarterbacks of all time. His stats for that year were nothing better than what half a dozen other great Stanford quarterbacks had achieved.
Next season he was passing 70.7% and was up to a whopping 170.2 efficiency rating. Then we knew he was special.
So even if one of our young quarterbacks were as talented as Luck, we can expect at least some inconsistency and growing pains. And my guess is that this is optimistic.Â
I would say that a 2009-like season is a good goal under the circumstances. It may be achievable since our defense will be better even if our offense is not quite as good.
